Program Notes in English:
The title of this work is taken from a poetic image at the beginning of the book “Antifragile” by Nassim Nicolas Taleb to whom this work is dedicated. The intial chord forms the basis for much of the musical material in the work. The harmonic instablity of the intial chord is brought into a more definite harmonic focus by the mallet percussion/harp/keyboards group, which play this role throughout the work. After a number of episodes, the initial unstable chord returns before leading into the second movement which is in is the form of a long melody which is presented in a number of orchestrations. The third movement is a scherzo which uses disparate elements to form a functional whole, with a more relaxed trio in the center of the work, forming an arc within the arc of the movement. The final movement (which begins with definte chords derived from the unstable initial chor) may be seen as the portrait of a highly determined thinker whose energetic thought process permeats the entire movement.

Le titre de cette œuvre est inspiré par une image poétique tirée du début du livre “Antifragile” de Nassim Nicolas Taleb, à qui cette pièce est dédiée. L’accord initiale contient le plupart du matériel musical de cette œuvre. L’instabilité harmonique de cette accord est clarifié par une première intervention du groupe de la percussion timbrée/harpe/claviers, rôle que ce groupe tient pendant cette œuvre. Après plusieurs épisode, l’accord instable revient pour amener la deuxième mouvement, est dans la forme d’une longue mélodie, présentée dans une variété d’orchestrations. La troisième mouvement est un scherzo qui utilise les éléments disparate pour former une système fonctionnelle, avec un trio plus détendu qui forme une sort d’arc dans l’arc de la mouvement totale. La mouvement finale (qui commence avec des accords bien définies qui sont dérivées de l’accord instable initiale) peut être vue comme le portrait d’un penseur hautement détermine et son processus de pensé énergétique qui est présent pendant toute cette mouvement.
