Program Notes in English:
The Concertino for alto saxophone and string orchestra was written for and is dedicated to saxophonist Nuno Miguel Silva. The work is in three movements. The first movement, “Introduction and Allegro” begins with an introductory passage which leads to an extended cadenza. The allegro uses a contrasting set of two themes, one of which is syncopated and dancelike, the other which is lyrical and expressive. The Aria which follows is in an ABA lied form with extended passage work for the soloist at the return of the theme. The Rondo-finale is a rollicking scherzo which is presented in a variety of forms, first in the saxophone and then in the violins, after several developmental passages and a final cadenza, returns to end the work with a final flourish.

Le Concertino pour saxophone alto et cordes est écrite pour et est dédié au saxophoniste Nuno Miguel Silva. L’œuvre est écrite en trois mouvements. La première mouvement “Introduction et Allegro” commence une passage lyrique en guise d’introduction qui amène une cadence. L’allegro exploit deux thèmes, une qui est syncopée et dansante, l’autre qui est plus lyrique et expressive. L’Aria qui suit est dans une forme lied ABA avec des passages plus rapide dans la partie soliste au retour de la thème. Le Rondo-Final est un scherzo qui est présenté dans la partie soliste et puis dans les cordes. Il y a par la suite une série de passages contrastantes et une cadence, qui mène le retour de la thème “Rondo” pour terminer l’œuvre avec une pirouette finale.
